Group Drums Support, Calls on Gbajabiamila to Contest 2027 Lagos Governorship

 News Article:

Lagos, Nigeria – June 29, 2025

A political support group under the banner of Gbaja/FKL Base has thrown its weight behind the former Speaker of the House of Representatives and current Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, urging him to join the 2027 governorship race in Lagos State.

Speaking at an event held to celebrate his 63rd birthday in Surulere on Wednesday 25th June, the group’s president, Mr Lanre Giwa, described Gbajabiamila as “a seasoned leader with an unmatched legacy of legislative excellence, strategic governance, and people-centered leadership.”

According to him, Gbajabiamila’s antecedents in both legislative and executive arms of government make him the most qualified person to consolidate the gains of the current administration and take Lagos to greater heights.

“We believe that come 2027, Lagos deserves a visionary who has proven capacity, a global network, and a deep understanding of the socio-economic needs of the people. Gbajabiamila is that man,” he stated.

Other speakers at the event, including the guest speaker, Professor Rasheed Ojikutu, friends, market women, and community influencers, echoed the call, citing his sterling achievements, especially in human capital development and infrastructure facilitation for his constituents and the state.

The group announced plans to commence a statewide awareness campaign and grassroots mobilization to further press home their call and galvanize support for Gbajabiamila’s candidacy.

As political permutations for 2027 gradually take shape in Lagos, Gbajabiamila’s name is beginning to surface in conversations across the state, with political analysts suggesting that his entry into the race could significantly alter the dynamics within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

While Gbajabiamila has yet to officially declare interest in the governorship, such events add momentum to growing speculations about his next political move.
